In today's comic about the overhead light, "otherwise known...as the 'slow-cooker'"...
I thought you guys had compact fluorescents. Not nearly as hot--wouldn't that make it "the dehydrator"?
Where I live we eat turkey and squash and pumpkin pie and cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving. The tradition goes back to a time when some new people came to the country and worked with (or more often against) the people who were already there, but one day they put aside their differences and gathered for a big feast. I'm told they ate oysters and venison. Was there a legendary feast like that in your world? What was on the menu?

Read today that Rudy passed his drivers test. My son and I have been reading Kevin and Kell for several years. He goes to take his test day after tomorrow. We've been laughing at how your lives have paralleled ours many times.
And good luck on getting the research published!

I wouldn't quite know on that one. The driver's test dedicated to a select number of species, including mine, was all about defensive driving. Avoid contact. Be prepared for quick actions. Drive up to the speed limit, at all times, when possible. (And, always use detectors.) Learning to avoid traffic jams and "bad areas". Seek out local police in case of danger. The test for my breed even avoided discussion of parallel parking, on issues of it being too "confrontational". (A vehicle in front. Another behind. Both blockades, in case of need to escape and all that.)

I have heard of the occasional predator trying to disguise themselves as herbivore, just to get an easier driver's test. The DMV puts those whom are caught trying through some seriously humiliating situations before denying them the license, though.

I passed my driving test on the first try... But then, there was an obcene amount of luck involved. The only thing I can pride myself on is my picture-perfect, textbook parallel park... which is a feat I strongly doubt I'll ever accomplish again. ^_^;

I agree with Mortar (on both points, in fact). Thanksgiving is it's own holiday seperate from Christmas... Thanksgiving should be surrounded by oranges, yellows, reds... the colors of the leaves. There should be pumpkins and various veggies as decorations. Christmas is straight up green and red... with Fir trees covered in lights and ornaments... two totally different holidays. I love 'em both, though. But the point is... I keep my Christmas cd's hidden 'till after Thanksgiving.

And I'm sure you father does indeed miss those bonding moments where you two'd catch leaves as they fell, but at the same time, he should be proud that you've become your own individual self. Parents hate to see their children grow up, but at the same time, it must give them a sense of pride knowing that their child has become the person he/she is directly because of the upbringing.

...I'm kinda scared to have kids, myself. ¬_¬;

Give Rudy my sympathies, and good wishes on his next driver's exam. Heck, I didn't learn to drive until I was 30. (This was due to a combination of factors, the biggest one being that I really didn't need to because I was willing to put up with walking or biking very long distances.) In fact, IMHO, the good thing about not owning a car is not having to Feed the Beast (remember when gas was $4.99/gal.? Who says that it won't happen again?) and insure it. (I hear that premiums for rookie drivers like Rudy are astronomical.)
