Amid all the hoopla and to-do over my engagement I've still been keeping an eye on Francis, the son of George and Danielle Fennec. In addition to our
Hare Link jobs Fenton and I have volunteered to babysit for him frequently, to which his parents are most grateful. (This also frees up Gran to keep up her losing battle to turn Coney away from carnivorism.)
As I've mentioned before, my interest in Francis stems from more than just our family bond. Like Danielle, I originated in the human world and crossed over into this one, being transformed in the process. Like her, I've found my soulmate here and will marry and (hopefully!) someday have children by him. The question is whether our human origins will have any genetic repercussions for our offspring.
So far all signs are positive. Francis is a healthy, happy omnivore, equally enjoying both meat and foliage. It would have been convenient for everybody if he'd either been a rabbit, a fennec fox or some obvious combination of the two, but like his parents I'm okay with accepting him as the mammalian jumble that he is.
...It's just those teeth of his. Danielle and I both know that they're human.
