I write this surrounded by boxes amid an otherwise empty dorm room, about to drive home for the summer. Rhonda's already left, but Fenton has to stay two more days in order to take one last final exam.
He'll fly back to his Smart Tree on Wednesday. Despite being busy all this time housing the
Hare-Link modem pool, I'm sure that Tree has been lonely with Fenton gone. Being completely wired, she has the ability to send E-mails to check up on him, which is more than Fenton's actual mother does.
Yes, I've come to view Tree as Fenton's mother, which is a pretty accurate description of their relationship. That, of course, puts me in the role of the Son's Girlfriend, but she seems to accept that.
Tree and I do share a mutual concern for Fenton's well-being, which is why I was so alarmed by his risk-taking. He seems to have toned that down since the airplane propeller incident shaved my quills, but I fear it didn't address the underlaying reasons for his thrillseeking.
Sheesh,
I'm sounding like his mother...or Dr. Phil.
