Dad's getting ready for his role as Easter Bunny. He takes it seriously, and he wants to make up for last year when he got sick and Kell had to take over.
I grew up underground in the rabbit warren, so I know how important the job is for the rabbit culture. It's a society that generally keeps to itself, and of all species the only one that requires passing a "Scampering Test" to maintain membership. (I was exempt from that, BTW.) The isolation is broken every Easter, when the rabbit population of each county is required to have one of its members distribute colored eggs for the entertainment of the young of the rest of the world. It's in partnership with the Birds, who've always had a large number of never-hatched eggs that would ordinarily go bad and stink up the place.
The job exposes the chosen rabbit to predators, and for a while Dad (with his unusual physique and fearlessness) was The Easter Bunny's bodyguard. Now he's got the role to himself.
Unspoken in the family is that The Easter Bunny job is often a stepping-stone to highter office: The Rabbit Council. Considering that Dad was a complete outcast just a short time ago, that's a major deal.
