Dad finished his school board work on approving textbooks last week. It's too bad that his assignment didn't include college texts. They're hideously expensive, and some are little more than pamphlets. (My pet peeve is when professors assign books that they themselves wrote...talk about a captive customer base!)
Textbook publishers defend high prices because of "high printing costs for small publishing runs." Maybe that was true a decade or so ago, but I know for a fact that today's print-on-demand publishers can produce limited runs with excellent quality.
In other news, Fenton and I will watch the Oscars tonight in the dorm common room with the rest of the residents. One of the good things about being noctural is that the darn thing runs so long that everyone else gets sleepy.
My pick for Best Picture: Little Miss Sunshine. (Yes, an odd choice for a noctural!)
