The recruiting fair was held at the local convention center, and Dewclaw’s Fine Meats exceeded expectations. Kell was able to successfully make the case for immediate advancement to the young carnivores, and came away with top talent coming out of college that R.L. assumed would be his.
Kell also took on employees that R.L. had no interest in to begin with, but it was the ones he targeted and lost that strung. At the end of the fair Kell got an idea how much it hurt when she received a text from him inviting her to a meeting...in the office that had been hers just months ago.
She gave a short speech to her new employees in the lobby of the Dewclaw’s building, and the head of personnel took over the orientation duties from there. Kell departed, and drove to the sprawling Herd Thinners complex.
Was she safe? R.L., with his power and wealth, can be a law unto himself. Let’s just say that the edict against preying on those you know doesn’t apply to him. Kell must feel, though, that she could survive anything he could possibly pull one-on-one. Remember that he regained control of Herd Thinners through boardroom machinations, and not through combat.
Still, I know Dad’s worried. Heck, I’m worried.
I think both may still be recovering from the last time did battle. The time he & Frank fought both of them nearly died untill Kell stepped in & pulled them apart. Kell from the battle at the holiday party. Good think Kevin had the for sight to have the good doctor on hand to help her.
I would say R.L. is trying to merge both companies to make one in order to cut out the rivalry. The only problem is Kell's backers may not go along with it. I would not be surprised if he has already given orders to start hunting RABBITS again.
I'm expecting Kell to turn down this offer. As others have said, her backers wouldn't go for it. More importantly (as far as I'm concerned) is that selling the company would put Dewclaw's employees at the mercy of R. L. That's something I hope that Kell would never agree to.
I would think that Kell should be ok as long as R.L. knows that people know that she went to meet with him in good health. There are a number of reason he would want a merger, one is cut down the competition of course, since Dewclaw’s Fine Meats has survived two challenges so far (R.L. scavengers & winter) others may try their luck and with out a monopoly or at least a large part of the market to himself cut into profits with lower prices. Second if Dewclaw's has/is projected to cut into his profits it would be advisable to do the merger while he still has most of the leverage. Third, the fight/regaining control took more out of him than he lets on and is worried about others challenging him and with Kell voluntary at his side (and with her history) people would be less likely to try that.
By the way Lindesfarne, remember when you held the job at the mall or when you helped NASA. I think you should practice while flying with Fenton. While Rudy has helped you before while the ground you'd be the best defense while in the air.
If you are talking about using her quills as a defensive weapon that may be a good idea. A well placed quill can hurt a bird just enough to make it land without doing any real harm. The only real harm will be to it's ego that a quill could take it out of action.
