Sunday, October 24. 2010COMPANY REPORTIt’s been 36 hours since Kell became CEO. A rollicking party has just ended with most everyone gone home. Gran and Elanor are cleaning up downstairs, and Fenton and I are straightening up the rest of the house. Continuing where I left off last week, shortly after meeting Kell in the hospital R.L. issued a statement supporting Kell as his successor. That did a number of things. It ensured a stable period in which the company’s stock price would remain protected from harmful rumors of dissension. Second, it allows Kell time to build alliances for when she is challenged. Third, it took the focus off the unconventional way in which Kell was catapulted into her position. Basically it tells Kell’s potential rivals: The system worked. The downside: R.L. (and Angelique, until he’s able) will have a permanent seat on the board. If she doesn’t toe their line they could revoke that support at any moment. The first thing Kell did was hire Fenton’s mom Desdemona as her executive assistant. That had been her job for about twenty years with other companies, and she brings experience that Kell will be relying on. Fenton and I are staying here in Domain during this amazing time, and helping out in general. (It was mainly us who put the party together.) Dad’s trying to make sure that Kell doesn’t do too much. While her injuries were superficial ones compared to R.L. and Mr. Mangle, they’re real and they’ll take time to heal. One factor that can’t be ignored will be the sudden change in Kell’s paycheck. At the party she told Rudy that he no longer had to be the Easter Bunny every Spring in order to get a college scholarship from the rabbits, but everyone was astonished when he said he wanted to keep doing it. As funny as it sounds, he takes genuine pride in the job, and it gives him the satisfaction of doing something high-profile that produces enjoyment for families all over the county. I asked Dad if they’d be moving to a bigger treehouse and he said no. With me gone, and Rudy now a high school senior, they don’t need more space. (Less, in fact.) Unsaid is the example of Fiona’s parents next door. A huge mansion couldn’t save that marriage. More developments to come, I’m sure! Trackbacks

Rudy's a senior now? Boy, time flies!
Has Coney started kindergarten yet, or is she still in pre-school? And now with the change in regime, as Kell's niece, how is Corrie handling things? Yes, Rudy is 18. Coney is four, and about to start kindergarten.
Corrie is still working at Herd Thinners, managing the company website. I would suspect she is the least likely Herd Thinners employee to challenge Kell for CEO. I can just see it now. A sheep as CEO of Herd Thinners. It kell even decides to step down as CEO of H.T. she could devise a new challange. Instead of fighting have an eating contest. Who ever can eat a fixed amount of meat in the shortest time would be CEO.
How do you fix it so The contestant wins. Easy. Have Kell eat a big meal just before the contest begins. Have the other fast. Kell loses & can go back to hunting. Don't forget, that sheep is half-wolf -- she's Ralph's daughter. As Ralph is Kell's brother, that means she's Kell's niece. But my guess is Corrie is happy where she is; she strikes me as an introvert, so a position where she's working on maintaining a website suits her.
Its good that everything is going smoothly. I hope it continues that way. If things get out of hand it could still affect the stock prices.
I guess when you moved out after your wedding to live with Fenton in Tree the house has more free space In 5 or 6 years Rudy will marry Fiona & they will move into a home of their own. Its good that Rudy wants to keep being the Easter Bunny. Will his mother can cover the whole cost for both him & Fiona its good that they earn as much of the money for college as possible. That way no one can say they did not earn the right to go. It has been and is continuing to be an awesome change.
I don't think anybody will challenge Kell, at least in their right mind. After all, she took down Mr. Mangle and R.L., along with being such a nice person that she would easily get a nice support network. And sure, R.L. and Mr. Mangle were weakened a bit already when Kell jumped in, well, the fact that she didn't get far more serious wounds is amazing and shows her skill
It looks like your marriage to Fenton is helping his family; Desdemona, who is openly a vampire bat, is now one of the most powerful people at Herdthinners now! Please tell her congratulations also.
And having to get past a vampire bat & Kell's in law just to get to Kell will probably get some potential challengers to pause for thought. Almost everyone seems to be forgetting Mr. Mangle. Not only was he strong enough to nearly defeat RL, he's one of Kell's allies already. When he gets well enough to return to work Kell will probably promote him high up. Not only does he get to pay his daughter's college fees, but... well:
Kell Desdemona Mr. Mangle. R.L. Her power base already includes some of the strongest in the company. Or the scariest. It will be months before R.L. and Mr. Mangle are up and around, and while people fear Desdemona, vampire bats aren't fighters.
If a challenge came now, Kell would stand alone. I don't think anyone is going to challenge Kell for a will. I think they will give her a chance to show she will run H.T. before passing judgement on. That will take 3 or 4 months to see how she handles the job. By that time R.L. & Mr. Mangle will be back on their feet.
I wonder if Dorothy will help them get back on their feet when the time comes. Oh my....
Would RL and Frank be up to handling Dorothy's rigorous physical therapy? She may be an older rabbit, but I have a feeling she'd run them ragged.... Another rabbit running hunters. RL may have some trouble here.
But one theme was that RL was running HT mean. And that to get out of that regime the only way was to challenge, when they could no longer stand the pain and humiliation, they challenged. Kell has a different style. She understands power and control, but will give a woman's style to the place. 'Otter

but dont you remember the fee that Desdemona has in place for someone to see Kell, a pint of blood. Which isnt that much but it would give Kell a slight advantage.
Eh, she just needs to bring Coney with her until then. Nobody in their right mind would mess with that rabbit, and from what I can tell, those who do don't live to tell about it
I don't think its a pint of blood they have to give Desdemona. It looked like a small tube of about 2 or 3 ounces. If she gets 5 or 6 tubes a day I think she would have enough blood to last thru the weekend.
Yes I do think it would be a good idea to bring Coney to work with her. She may only be 4 years old but she has a reputation as a BUNNY you don't want to mess with if you want to live to sssee another day. Remember, Coney ate the human resources director when she was barely 1....

Coney has been a trouble and a causality maker to HT.
She IIRC was the cause of LD's death. And she is one of the top 5 if not the top most dangerous people in the dangerous K&K universe. It is nice to know (oct 26) that there are limits on violence in the HT workplace. 'Otter

Maybe Kell needs to hire Rhonda as an intern. And since RL and Angelique are supporting Kell, maybe their 20 adopted skunks would be willing to lend their "assist-scents."
I agree. Call in Rhonda, Coney & all the skunk kids. Kell is going to need all the help she can get. Even at full health she is going to need all the help she can get.
She may even want to call in the high school hunting team as backup. Actually, the idea of hiring Rhonda as an intern is sheer brilliance. She's proved herself both as a member of the high school hunting team AND in college; she got a hunting scholarship, if I remember correctly. It's not nepotism; why WOULDN'T Herd Thinners look to hire the best? I'm sure some will grumble, but it makes perfect sense.
I'm betting Kell's going to go for the biscuit rather than the rolled-up newspaper in her management approach: no quotas, but rewards starting at a particular level and getting bigger with each take. That'll work with some, but possibly not with others (felines won't take to it right away, as they won't want to look like they're trying to brown-nose). But I bet Kell could get some tips on what will motivate felines from Abby. kELL sugjests that they hunt in packs like wolfes as the best way to bring down pray. Someone points out that we're not all wolves. Kell asks wouldn't you like to beat use at our own game. They all agree with that.
Almost looks more like an approach a mom would use... probably some of the same type of psychology she's used on Rudy at some point.
i think we are over thinking this whole, kell needs back-up, thing, maybe a few people, but not a 20-50 gang squad of helpers, i mean, come on! It may be a large company but its not that bad, and i wonder what would happen if the C.E.O. of HT got assassinated? who would take over, it would be warfare in the office all fighting pointlessly for who would take over, families grieving, and a new methade for becoming the C.E.O., maybe a new line that involves that old C.E.O. not being dead and living a new life, and someone finding that out and busting him/her. it would make for a great line of comics
Once again: Coney. Anybody else on top of that is overkill
I wonder if she is related to the rabbit from Monty Python and the Holy Grail? Well, if Kell and Ralph are decended from the big, bad wolf (don't know which side of the family), then it's entirely possible that Dorothy (then Kevin) could be decended from the vorpal rabbit (unbeknownst to the family), and that particular trait only seems to appear at random (I wonder if any of Kevin's other siblings ever displayed the same traits - from both of his parents' comments it seems like he is the only one)
Technically, that would be the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog.
But but does Kell WANT this job I mean she loves hunting
What if Kell decides to set an example by going out in the wilds as part of a hunting team. She would still be CEO of Herd Thinners but still be hunting. She may only do this 2 or 3 days a week but she would have the best of both worlds that way.
What made R.L. an easy target in the end was his letting his health go to the point that he could not win in a real fight with someone who planned an attack. That didn't make him a pushover but win or lose he would be have died in the end had Kell not intervined. |
