Dad spent the week campaigning door-to-door for the school board race, trying to overcome his impulse to compare it to spamming. Of course for any prey species except Dad, ringing the doorbells of strange predators would be compared to insanity. He didn't have any problems, but Kell and Rudy still insisted on coming along. (Yes, Rudy!)

Dad's big campaign theme is high-stakes standardized testing, but the issue most people are talking about is the price of meat. It's doubled in the past few years, and people are resenting the skyrocketing profits that Herd Thinners, Inc. is reporting to their shareholders. Even though Kell is a Herd Thinners predator, our family is very much affected by the costs.

...After all, we have to pay to feed Coney.

"Any prey species except Dad"? He's a species unto himself? That would explain... (kidding).

I wonder how Rudy went about his insistence on coming along. It doesn't seem like him to be open about caring for Kevin, so he must have given a self-serving reason of some kind.

Price gouging? Bollocks! If a company's prices are too high, someone WILL start another company to sell a similar product at lower prices. They say capitalism is dog-eat-dog, but that's the reason why it works!

That's the problem. When the competition becomes dog-eat-dog, how do you know the meat on the shelf labelled "BEEF" isn't dog? Capitalism has its good points, but when the market is hot, the temptaton to profit by breaking the rules heats up, too.

Ah, the price of meat. It's driving everyone here in Australia crazy, but what's worse is the price of oil out here. It's being steadily increasing and is now at almost $2 a litre. At those prices, even the price of meat is a little less taxing. The petrol stations have been increasing prices even though prices for crude oil are dropping. It's daylight robbery!

It's good that Rudy is accompanying Kevin on his trips. I think it's showing that he's growing up and learning to accept responsibility. That's a nice thing.

I guess I'm a bit uncertain about some of the conventions of Domain -- doesn't Coney hunt her own food? What needs to be paid for, if she catches the prey on her own?

I bet the Kindle household is entirely free of small prey at this time. The local rat union must have fliers up warning away any future rodent househunters. But they could rent Coney out by the hour to clear out apartments and warehouses of all mice and rats. (food and a job all in one!)

She's a baby, not a super-hunter! Granted, from what I've seen she's good at it, but her abilities don't seem to be caught up to her ravenous appetite yet.

(I've learned this from anecdote and far-away viewing, I don't dare go near a carnivorous bunny!)

Well over here, the Meat price isn't too bad... I guess the recent increase has had some affect, but we have Alberta to thank... always been helpful in our meat! Not sure that would help our prices that much... but hey, I don't try to understand Canadian Government, its just not worth the loss of sanity.

...And the primates here are going ape over the price of bananas here in Australia! (Pun intended) Since the hurricane killed off half the crops, they're selling bananas at $11.90 a kilogramme! It's daylight robbery, I'm telling you!

In truth, I hate bananas, being a cat at all, but I hate unfair prices even more.
