Kell's official title at Herdthinners, Inc. is staff predator (one of many at the company), but her influence is much more than that. Since she returned from being fired, the title is just something that enables her to do the hunting she loves. (When she held an earlier executive position she was prohibited from catching prey.)
In effect she's become an unofficial aide to R.L., filling any role in which he feels she can help the company. For instance, tomorrow she's meeting a potential client for lunch, hoping that his supermarket chain will buy Herdthinners meat. For all of R.L.'s shortcomings, he's canny enough to know that Kell presents an excellent public face for the firm.
The wild card in this is Angelique, the woman with whom I have my own complicated issues. As R.L.'s wife (and in practical terms, co-CEO) this couldn't be done without her consent. Of couse, I don't underestimate Angelique, either; she could likewise feel the company is better off with Kell, or perhaps she just likes to keep her close to keep an eye on her.
The two theories are not mutally exclusive.
