THE BREAK UP (CONCLUSION)

Rhonda and Edgar are back together. As I suspected, all it took was for him to put forth the effort of hunting; not actual hunting success. Rhonda just wanted a signal that the relationship wasn't a one-way street. Then she went out and killed a nice meal for them both.

So where does it go from here? Beats me. Maybe Edgar will never try hunting again. Maybe he'll get better at it. Maybe Rhonda will meet someone else at Beige U. Maybe she won't. As a scientist I'm intrigued by the variables.

Closer to home, Dad's continuing his campaign for school board as he speaks out against the misuse of high-stakes testing and the myth that they encourage "accountability." It's well-documented that all they actually do in practice is teach kids how to fill in little bubbles with number two pencils. (He's having a tough time since his opponent is well-financed...by the testing industry.)

Hmmm, maybe I can contact you, Lindy, to get in touch with your brother for some tutoring of my own. Not like Mrs. Lion minds being the huntress, after all it's the natural way of things with lions, but just might want to surprise the missus sometime. (As long ass she doesn't expect it to be a regular thing ... )

Well, well, well. Aren't you being cheeky, Mr Lion! You're being awfully familiar with Lindesfarne.

Speaking of tutoring without payment, I was up late last night tutoring my neighbour in Chemistry. He is having his examination this morning.

The poor fellow barely knows the most basic acid-base reactions -- let alone how to construct pheremones... I really have no idea how he expects to pass given his lack of knowledge.

It's like Edgar. The poor fellow really is trying his best. It's just that even if he tries his best, he's not making any progress because he simply doesn't "get it". He doesn't understand the concepts and he can't grasp the theories...

I kind of sympathise with Rudy... It's so frustrating to teach someone who just doesn't seem to be making any progress at all.

As a former member of a high school which got most of its funding from standardized tests, I can tell you (as can, probably, Lindesfarne) that often, it doesn't even teach you how to fill in bubbles, but that at least once per year, an entire week will be taken off and devoted to testing, which will serve as a great time to catch up on reading that one book (in my case, "To Kill a Mockingbird").

I wonder if Rudy has ever thought of teaching? Seems he's got a nack for it; when it comes to training others to hunt.
