Thanks to everyone who wrote in with comments last week! Danielle has been taking your advice, and she’s found she can fashion infant-safety devices by adapting products made for keeping predators out.
Life in Domain has calmed down, according to Dad. This does tend to follow a pattern. People get riled up, go out yelling and ranting over something, and just as suddenly it dies down and life goes on as people adapt to the thing that they once thought of as intolerable. We’ve gone back to our usual routine. Every morning Danielle, George and Francis come over to the treehouse and head down to the Hare-Link office. George spends the morning tending Francis, and around 1:00 the preschool bus drops off Coney. Coney then spends the afternoon with Francis as George takes care of them both. Dad, Ralph and Danielle keep the ISP running, and send any tech problems to me and Fenton. Customer service is still handled by Candace down in New Zealand. Here at Beige I’ve finally begun writing papers for possible publication in peer-reviewed research journals. Meanwhile, tomorrow (Monday) I have an appointment with my academic advisor. This is unusual; she said it was something she had to tell me in person. The weekly question is for those of you with preschoolers. What childcare options do you have? Trackbacks

Personally I'm a stay-at-home mom. My son is autistic, so three days a week he attends a sort of preschool to help with that. Other than that, he's here with me.
As far as options for others that can afford it, there are day cares that can sometimes arrange for the drop off and pick up of children from preschools or programs such as the one my son is in. Some people also have babysitters or more rarely, nannies. I've also heard of the growing popularity of "mannies" which are just male nannies. These options, at least in my area, are pretty expensive with day care centers charging an average of $250 a week for one child. I have a question for you: Is it possible that if you or Danielle were pregnant and had the baby on this side of the portal and then crossed back the baby would stay "transformed" to fit in? Or do you think it would still turn into a human? > I've also heard of the growing popularity of "mannies"
> which are just male nannies. Hollywood would've been an influence here, wigh such movies as "Mr. Mom", "Daddy Daycare", "Mr. Nanny" or maybe even (God forbid) "Suburban Commando". Lol, I also had a mannie for awhile, but couldn't afford to keep him. He was the one that told me about lots of people he knew in New York using them, so I just thought they were catching on.
Most parents use daycare centers for preschool, with the children seperated by age. They accept children as young as 6 weeks old! Others have nannies that come in while the parents are working. The traditional two-parent family, with one staying home while the other works, is not as common as it once was. It is also unusual for a company to have on-site child care. Because of my work schedule as a firefighter, I take care of my son on my days off, and have been doing that since he was an infant. We have a very special bond.
I am single, so do not have familiarity with the situation, but when I was little I went to a preschool, and had occasional babysitting by an older cousin.
Glad to hear everything has returned to relitive normalicy. Maybe this means Francis won't have problems growing up, but I'm an optimest.
Anyway, preschools here are basicly a place were kids learn to be social, and fingure paint. Ah, good times. As for costs, idk, never really asked mom or dad, but were a fairly well-off famiy, so I'm sure it's not too much of a financial burden. People got all riled up over Francis and then just like that accepted him for who he is. Wow, I wish all of humans kind was like that. If that were the case and humans were accepted for who they are there would be no war. The world would be a truly great place. Yah know 'trust is vital in a peaceful world but that will never happen.' The humans race will never learn to get along. If we never learn to get along as a species it could ultimately lead to our demise. Its really quite sad.
What is going on with Candace these days? As someone who would someday like to be an air traffic controller I was surprised to find that as a profession in the world of domain. Also, do they have all herbivore and carnivore airlines? I would assume putting everyone into the same cabin of an aircraft would create complications. They do have special herbivore and carnivore sections on airplanes, but you have to pay extra. Most people travel coach. Flight attendants strictly enforce a no-predation rule because they want you to pay for the meals they provide.
Candace is enjoying her life in New Zealand. Her husband is working with Peter Jackson on "The Hobbit." Good luck with your appointment Lindesfarne.
And Windham, don't worry too much, at least about humanity's survival as a species. Freer flow of information helps, as democracies never attack one another. Everyone has attacked just about everything and everyone.
Given the history we have had, almost every statement of X never attacked Y can be disproved. But there is much kindness and cooperation too. Well, my little one is too young for preschool yet, but when she's a little bigger, she has a couple options, all of which cost money. She can stay with her daycare provider, which means an hour commute for me, or be enrolled at an expensive preschool, which will at least cut down on the driving time. I'm leaning towards the preschool, which will help her socialize and cut down on my driving time.
I have heard of an incident in our world, but since I can not find the reference, I am not totally sure of it.
A cougar killed a faun. Normal hunting The doe came accross the cougar's kittens and killed them. The cougar killed the deer, did not eat it, How would this be handled if it happened in your world? I stay at home with my infant daughter, and I work 40 hours from home over the phone and internet.
Lindesfarne, I have a question about you I would like to ask, if I may. As a former human, former herbivore and current insectivore, have you ever craved meat/poultry/fish/eggs/fruit? Anything outside of your typical diet? Or is the idea of those inclusions in a diet particularly repellant to you? I see that Danielle enjoys meat from her past as an omnivorous human. You might have come here before you'd have eaten solids as a human, so your diet was easy to learn. And would Danielle find the idea of eating bugs disgusting? It's somewhat taboo in a lot of areas on o ur side, yet some cultures think it is a delicacy. Thank you! I was raised as a herbivore, but when I changed to the traditional hedgehog diet of insects there was a brief period of adjustment. I quickly adapted as my natural inclinations took over, and now I eat insects exclusively. I suppose I could eat other thing, but why would I when bugs are always so plentiful?
Time to go meet my advisor! For child-care, I'd recommend family. Before I married, I had over a hundred blood-relations in a 2-hour drive, and since I worked out of my home they assumed I had time for watching the little ones. I had unpaid babysitting jobs plopped in my lap all the time. I complained mightily (not that I really minded, but it was traditional).
As for the graduation in May ... does this mean that Fenton's parents are going to swoop down on the graduation ceremony and carry you off to a Justice of the Peace? (One of my cousins got in-laws like that - she actually had to threaten to not invite them to the wedding to make them shut up.) Please blog advisor shock.
Insects vs herb vs carn vs etc Which tasts better? How many types have you tried? My youngest daughter has a different diet: a vegetarian who will not eat her veggies until they have been converted to junk food: junkatarian. I'm still just getting towards collage so I don't exactly have any recommendations for anything about preschool or anything like that, but I do have this to say...
CONGRADULATIONS Maybe. You'll be able to graduate early Lindesfarne! I wonder how Kevin and Kell will react when they find out? We would think you would be happy about graduating in May. Or are you one who enjoys the trip as much as the journy. I think the teachers want you to graduate as much as Fenton's parents. They want you on the staff.
I think I should have said you enjoy the journy as much as the destinaton.
You might not realize this Lindesfarne but you graduated from High School the same day I did. May 25th 2005 seems like such a long time ago but now I only have four college courses left to take next semester which means I will be graduating in the spring.
Have you had all your upper level classes yet?
You will need their knowledge for graduate school. AP is really only good for Frosh and some soph classes. Testing out of a class is one thng, missing it entrely is another. There should be methods to protest that move, unless you are going to a community college, which i do not believe is the case I am slightly surprised that there are no humans with your name. Some people like unique names, there is a non-zero chance of someone naming a child after you.
I guess then that It has not happened yet. I did check out facebook, and there is one person with your name as his last name. The reason Lindesfarne was adopted was Angelique wanted a child she would not have to care for. Kevin did all the caring for her. I think Angelique gave her the name as a joke. Good thing the joke was on her. Lindesfarne will make HISTORY will Angelique will only be a footnote at best.
Lindesfarne, I am glad to hear you are graduating sooner than you thought, and I am sure Fenton is as well. I do hope to hear how the wedding plans are going, and if there is anything any of us in your blog can do to help out in any way.
I just found out about the wedding date of t6/5/2010. Now its between both mothers to set the time of day it takes place. Kell wants 2pm. Fentons mother wants 2am. Kell should try 9pm. Not too late for day people & not too early for night people. Hopefully just right for both.
