The “ghost whisperer” just left, declaring that the spirit of Kell’s first husband had just “crossed over.” I’m skeptical, of course; all I saw was Kell having a conversation with the collie and some unseen other individual. It was like weird piece of performance art. Still, Kell seems happier afterwards, and since no money changed hands it couldn’t have been some sort of scam. So, who knows?
Rudy had always claimed to feel the presence of his late father, but he didn’t seem affected by the departure of the spirit. It seems he’d already made his peace with the situation.
I did notice, though, that all of the people who claim to be able to communicate with the dead (Kell, Rudy, Elanor, this “ghost whisperer” collie...) are all canines.
Anyway, on to more pressing matters. Fenton’s parents are still meddling with my life. I think I liked them better when they were ignoring him (and me) but the engagement changed all that. I was able to cancel the plans they were making without my input, but to forestall further moves on their part I’m going to have have some choices.
...Like china patterns. sigh

Maybe there is a connection with canines and seeing ghosts. Maybe it makes up for there color blindness but then why did your dad see the ghost as well? I dont know these are just my random thoughts anyways. Don't let his parents dissaude you from the whole marriage thing, its better to deal with it now then have every decision made for you. Buck up ok? Fenton (as well as everybody else) loves to see that beautiful smile of yours!

Folklore here in the human world states that canines are very spiritual... in some religions, gods take the form of foxes or wolves when they take a physical form. Also, many claim their dogs seem to be following someone around when nobody can see anything. One of our adopted dogs does this sort of thing quite often... looks off at an empty area and kinda tilts his head, goes over to the area, and looks up and barks (like he's looking up at a human ghost's face and saying, "Hi! I can see you!")... then again, a lot of the time he does some really weird stuff... so another viable theory is brain damage...

I understand that the same is true of cats as well. I've heard that they'll stare off into space for a while, then run off or do some other peculiar thing for no apparent reason. Could they be seeing things/beings that the human eye/mind can't?

Yes, cats do this too. One commonly held belief involves beings called "greeblings" that humans cannot sense, but that cats can. Cats loathe greeblings and are very quick to defend their territory from these entities.

Fun with the in laws, huh? I'm engaged too, been so for 6-7 months now, but our trouble is our familes seem not to want to believe it, since he's a Tiger and I'm a Spotted Hyena.

But I think it is a canine thing, seeing ghosts, since I often see the ghosts of my grandmother and grandfather. Keep an open mind

Lindesfarne, I might suggest a word to your father on what he thinks of the situation? I've got a notion that he might dissolve your conclusion of it being something solely canine in nature....

Maybe it works like this: As ghosts can choose when to appear to whom, we canines might be able to see them whether they want us too or not. However, the ghost willingly showed up to your father.
